Halloween Weather in Palm Beach County: King Tides, High Surf and Showers Threaten Trick-or-Treating (West Palm Beach Watch News)

Halloween in Palm Beach County follows a week of coastal flooding from king tides, high waves and fierce winds that created dangerous marine conditions, the Palm Beach Post reported Oct. 30, citing the National Weather Service in Miami. The Jupiter Civic Center closed because of erosion damage, the Juno Beach Pier shut down because of damage from the waves, one cruise ship delayed its return to the Port of Palm Beach, and some beach access points are closed in Jupiter and Juno Beach. A coastal flood advisory for the county runs until 8 p.m. Saturday, with a high surf advisory and a rip current statement also in effect into the weekend.

For trick-or-treating on Saturday, Oct. 31, coastal showers are possible during the afternoon and evening hours as a disturbance moves across the Gulf, according to the National Weather Service forecast reported by the Post. Gusty winds along the coast starting Saturday afternoon could lead to a high risk of rip currents and more hazardous beach conditions, and waves could reach as high as 8 feet off the coast that day. King tide flooding is expected through the end of the week, but the weather service said the worst of the flooding has already happened.

The station's own live weather feed put West Palm Beach at 77 degrees and clear on Friday night, with a Friday high of 81.9 and a low of 75.6. The feed shows Saturday at 82.6 degrees with a 22 percent chance of precipitation, Sunday at 80.7 degrees with a 74 percent chance, and thunderstorms on Monday with a high of 80.9 degrees and a 79 percent chance of precipitation. Families heading out Saturday evening should plan for wet streets in low-lying coastal areas and keep clear of the surf.
