Coastal Flood Advisory Now Runs Through Sunday Evening in Palm Beach County, With 5-to-8-Foot Surf and a High Rip Current Risk (West Palm Beach Watch News)

The National Weather Service in Miami is keeping coastal Palm Beach County under a Coastal Flood Advisory through Sunday, according to the advisory issued early Saturday and read by this desk: moderate coastal flooding is expected during periods of high tide, with flooding of lots, parks and roads and only isolated road closures expected. The advisory now runs through 7 p.m. Sunday, extending a flood threat that has closed waterfront facilities and flooded Flagler Drive during a week of king tides.

The beach forecast is the sharper hazard. The weather service expects dangerous beach conditions with a high rip current risk and large breaking waves of around 5 to 8 feet, with the high surf and rip current risk continuing through at least Monday morning. Anyone heading to the coast for the rest of Halloween weekend should treat the water itself as the danger, whatever the sky looks like.

The station's live feed on Saturday afternoon showed 81.3 degrees in West Palm Beach, with a Saturday high of 82.6 and a 29 percent precipitation chance, rising to 44 percent on Sunday with a high of 82.5, and thunderstorms in the Monday forecast at a 65 percent precipitation chance. Clocks fall back one hour early Sunday as daylight saving time ends, which is why the advisory's Sunday-evening expiration is stated in standard time.
