Halloween Events in Palm Beach County: Spookyville Leads a Halloween Day of Family Fun (West Palm Beach Watch News)

Halloween falls on Saturday, Oct. 31, and the family anchor in Palm Beach County is Spookyville at the South Florida Fairgrounds in Yesteryear Village, 9067 Southern Blvd. in West Palm Beach. The Palm Beach Post lists Spookyville at 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, and Saturday, Oct. 31, with trick-or-treating, costume contests, a petting zoo, live entertainment and family photo opportunities, plus a DJ, a balloon twister and food trucks and vendors. Families planning around it should check the fair's listing before leaving, as published hours for the event have varied between guides.

West Palm Beach families have a daytime option at the Cox Science Center and Aquarium, 4801 Dreher Trail N., where Spooky Science celebrations run through Saturday, Oct. 31, with hands-on crafts, live science experiments, spooky decorations and candy stations. The center is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays, the Post reported, with admission listed at $26 for adults, $22 for ages 3 to 12, $24 for ages 13 to 17 and seniors, and free for members. The station's live weather feed put Saturday in West Palm Beach at a high of 82.5 degrees with a 21 percent chance of precipitation, so outdoor plans should still allow for a passing coastal shower.

Two cautions for Halloween-day planners: Fright Nights at the South Florida Fairgrounds ran through Friday, Oct. 30, and does not run on Saturday, and the city's free Clematis by Fright party on the downtown waterfront was Thursday, Oct. 29, and has already passed. After dark, the West Palm Cowboy Club at 200 Clematis St. lists a Halloween Saturday program, "Welcome to the Freakshow," with roaming performers, circus acts and LED juggling well past midnight, according to the Post's event list.
