Halloween Safety in Palm Beach County: A Saturday Night of Trick-or-Treating, With the Risks Named Plainly (West Palm Beach Watch News)

Halloween 2026 falls on a Saturday, so Palm Beach County should expect more children, more parties and more neighborhood traffic than on a weeknight Halloween, according to the county Halloween guide published by Shiner Law Group, read in full by this desk. The guide's central warning is about children on foot after dark: a JAMA Pediatrics study of 42 years of federal fatal-crash data, as published in the guide, found pedestrian deaths 43 percent higher on Halloween evening than on comparison nights, and children ages 4 to 8 at about 10 times the usual risk. The guide also reported, citing NHTSA, that 176 people were killed in drunk-driving crashes on Halloween nights from 2019 to 2024, including 31 pedestrians.

For families who want a contained option, the guide lists Spookyville in Yesteryear Village at the South Florida Fairgrounds in West Palm Beach, open on Halloween from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. with tickets about $10 to $15 and children age 1 and under free; the Not So Spooky Movie Marathon at Mandel Public Library, 411 Clematis Street, from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., free; and the Haunted Pirate Fest and Mermaid Splash in Boynton Beach, Saturday from noon to 10 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m., with free admission and a kids' zone with trick-or-treating at Centennial Park. Palm Beach County cities and the Sheriff's Office set no official trick-or-treat hours, the guide said, and most families go out around dusk, roughly 6 to 8 p.m.

The guide's advice for parents is practical: add reflective tape to costumes and bags and carry a flashlight or glow sticks, choose face paint over masks that can block side vision, cross at corners and crosswalks, and keep children under 12 with an adult. For drivers, it is to slow down in neighborhoods from late afternoon through late evening, enter and exit driveways slowly, turn headlights on early, put the phone away and never drive impaired - a warning it underlines for a Saturday Halloween, when more adults are also out at parties.
