John I. Leonard High School Closed Monday as Crews Work the Learjet Crash Site Half a Mile Away
The Palm Beach County School District closed the 2,800-student Greenacres campus for Monday in an 8 p.m. Sunday statement; every other county school is expected to open, with rain-related bus delays possible.

GREENACRES — John I. Leonard High School will be closed Monday as emergency crews and investigators continue working at the site of Sunday's Learjet crash, the Palm Beach County School District announced Sunday evening. The campus, at 4701 10th Ave. North in Greenacres, sits within half a mile of the intersection of Military Trail and 10th Avenue North, where the Learjet 60 came down at about 12:50 p.m. Sunday, killing all nine people aboard, as Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed Sunday.
"John I. Leonard will remain closed as emergency crews continue to respond to the nearby off-campus aircraft incident," district officials said in the statement, issued at 8 p.m. Sunday and reported by the Palm Beach Post. Roughly 2,800 students attend the school. The district did not name a date for Leonard to reopen and said further updates would come.
All other Palm Beach County schools were expected to be open Monday, the district said, though the torrential rain expected through Sunday night could cause some bus delays in the morning. All district schools are out on Tuesday, Nov. 3, for Election Day — which means Leonard students, at minimum, are out Monday and Tuesday while the investigation beside their campus runs on.
